An Atypical Any Hero Card

Hi everyone!

Today's Any Hero card is atypical for me -- in Earth tones rather than my usual red, white, and blue palette. As with most Any Hero cards, the card below is inspired by this week's OWH Sketch.   :)

Distress Ink core paper and Bazzill cardstock (darkest brown)
Paper Smooches ribbon
Darice and Cuttlebug embossing folders
adhesives: Ranger Multi Medium, Zots 3D glue dots

Parting Thoughts

Looking forward to a fun week.
  • Our July W2SB goes live at midnight EST on July 1. Hope everyone will join us for a festive challenge.  :)
  • The OWH VCMP starts at 8:00 EST on Friday.
  • And, this is a 4-day work week!
Enjoy the rest of your weekend. We're having "the dads" out for dinner. Should make for a really nice day.  :)

Thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

Wistful, Wishful, Hopeful

Hi, everyone.

I have two cards to share: a favorite color card for Shopping Our Stash and a kiddie Miss You card for Operation Write Home.

The favorite color challenge card was... a bit of a challenge. My favorite colors seem to be seasonal and/or situational. So, considering that it is summer... and I craft in a room with yellow and blue colors that remind me of a summer breeze, I went with yellow for this week's Shopping Our Stash challenge.  :)

Kid Quotes sentiment in StazOn jet black on watercolor paper
Distress Inks blended with Ranger tool (scattered straw, peacock blue)
Distress Ink core (mustard seed), Recollections black
Stampin' Up! black brads, Paper Studio tiny black brads
Stampin' Up! white brads colored with Sharpie markers

My second card is for this week's OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge to make a kiddie Miss You card. Truth be told, there is a third part of this challenge -- to use the new OWH Mama Elephant stamp set. But, this third part just isn't going to happen.

You see hubby and I have fun funds -- the TK and SK funds. It seems like the TK fund always has lots of money -- and just keeps growing. Trust me, that's not the case with the SK fund. So, with the end-of-May spectacular CREATE event and the new Stampin' Up! catalog -- not to mention buying presents for hubby (for our upcoming 30th anniversary), for my Dad's 80th birthday, and for my nephew's 13th birthday... Let's just say the Mama Elephant set is going to have to wait no matter how darn cute it is! LOL

But, that doesn't mean I can't make a kiddie Miss You card for this week's OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge.  :)  Like the card, just not a very good colorer. Hoping it will bring a smile to a little one's face anyway.

Lawn Fawn Love You S'more stamp set colored in Distress Inks with Ranger water brush
Distress Ink core paper; computer-generated original sentiment (Comic Sans)
SU speech bubble die; Simon Says A2 curve die; SU owl punch (hearts)
Recollections foam adhesives

Looking forward to next weekend's OWH VCMP -- as well as a four-day work week!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend. Thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

From Spring to Summer

Hi, everyone.

Wow! We sure did go from spring to summer really fast in our neck of the woods. How about you?

Today's card, inspired by this week's OWH Midweek Throwdown color challenge, seems to capture this transition with spring colors and summer flowers.  :)

SU! retired (garage-sale find) dp; Bazzill/AC cardstock
Sizzix embossing folder; Really Reasonable Ribbon lace
Fiskars border punch; stash gems
adhesives: Glossy Accents and Recollection foam adhesive squares

Parting Thoughts

Probably won't be posting again until Sunday. So, one last reminder that Words 2 Scrap By is accepting entries until June 21 for our June Oh, The Places You'll Go challenge.  :)

Have a good end of the week! Until next time, thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

Circles and Stars

Hi, everyone!

Happy Father's Day to all the dads, including my dad and father-in-law. Special thoughts to those who are missing loved ones on this holiday weekend.

Since our dads are coming for a cook-out, I'll make this post short and sweet. The following Any Hero card was inspired by today's OWH Sketch.

We R Memory Keepers red, white & blue dp; Bazzill admiral
AC (lighter blues) and Distress Ink core (antique linen, barn door red, fired brick)

punches: Paper Studio star; Marvy and Paper Shaper circles
??? corner punch (for tiny stars); Glossy Accents
Played with lots of combinations of solid and patterned circles until stumbling on the idea of using Distress Ink antique linen as my neutral and limiting the number of patterns used. When I started fussing too much about element placement, I heard those Tim Holtz's words of wisdom, "Get over yourself!"

Words 2 Scrap By is accepting entries for our June challenge Oh, The Places You'll Go until the 21st. The amazing Darnell Knauss and OWH's own Carol L are our Guest I-Teamers this month.

Looking forward to Bernadette's SU Stamp Club on Wednesday.  :)

Have a great week! Thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

For a TEE-riffic Dad!

Hi, everyone.

Here to share my Dad's Father's Day card -- the "golfer" in my life.  :)

Distress Ink core paper; Recollections white and black
Paper Smooches or SU string/twine
Simon Says A2 curve die for hills; Creative Memories oval cutting system for hole;
EK hole punch for golf ball; hand cut flags
Hero Arts white dauber ink for clouds; IMAGINEcrafts Shimmer spritz on flag sticks
Recollection foam adhesive
There's a little Simon Says CREATE magic here -- the cloud technique, the A2 die hills, and the shimmery flag sticks.  :)

The card actually started as an A2. But, it looked about half sky, half golf course. So, I trimmed the sky half a couple of times to get more of a 1/3 to 2/3 ratio between sky and golf course. The tops of the hills were slightly sanded to help give them more of a visual separation. And, there's one layer of foam adhesive for the middle hill and a double layer for the lowest hill.

I like the overall design idea, and like most of the execution. Just not thrilled with the flags. Gonna have to work on that if I do any of these for OWH -- especially since handwritten sentiments aren't used for OWH cards.

Think that's it for now. Happy Father's Day to all the men in our lives.

Taking a Break from Patriotic Papers

Hi, everyone!

I've been thinking about this week's Shopping Our Stash challenge to use something soft... trying to come up with something other than my standard go-to ribbon/twine/tulle. And, then I remembered that piece of linen stashed away with my 12 by 12 papers. Turns out I even had some negative dies that made perfect star and wave stencils.... and some garage sale brads to secure the linen to the background cardstock. Now, that's what I call shopping my stash!  :)

Recollection linen; Bazzill admiral
Distress Ink chipped sapphire and fried brick applied with SU daubers
negative dies used as stencils; garage sale brads
Not sure if this will be an Any Hero card or a generic greeting card. But, either way, it's headed to Operation Write Home.

Parting Thoughts

Looking forward to having our dads out on Father's Day.  :)

There's still time left to play along with our June Oh, The Places You'll Go challenge at Words 2 Scrap By.

See you on Sunday. Until then, thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

Soar to New Heights

Hi, everyone!

Today's card was made for this week's Operation Write Home Midweek Throwdown challenge to make a kite card.

American Crafts cardstock; Recollections black cardstock
Making Memories kite stamp, heat embossed with Versamark and Ranger clear powder
computer-generated sentiment (Kristen font)
SU white Baker's Twine; Hero Arts white dauber ink
adhesives: Glossy Accents and Recollections foam squares

To create the kite, I stamped and heat embossed the kite image on four different papers. Then, I fussy cut and paper-pieced the kite shown. The clouds were created using a technique shown at Simon Says Stamps CREATE -- daubing Hero Arts white ink with a used dryer sheet.

In addition, I took extra care placing the twine so that it would look good whether the kite was flat or popped up. I adhered one end to the back of the kite. Then I placed the twine across the edge of the card, securing the raspberry-colored tails along the length of the twine.

Since this is going to OWH, there is a piece of white rectangular space on the back for writing a note home to a loved one.

Last, but certainly not least, this card was also inspired by the card shown at the right -- part of a make-n-take at Bernadette's open house for the new Stampin' Up! catalog. The fold in the card felt just right for a kite soaring to new heights. Thanks, Bernadette, for just the inspiration I needed for this OWH kite challenge!

Parting Thoughts

Think that's it for tonight.

A reminder that it's not too late to link a card for this month's Words 2 Scrap By challenge.

I'll be back on Sunday with a card for my tee-rrific dad! Until then, thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

To One of Our Nation's Finest

Hi, everyone!

A quick post today because the dads are coming for dinner.  :)

Today's Any Hero card was inspired by OWH Sketch #228. Just love how easy it is to combine patterns in Bo Bunny collections.  :)

Bo Bunny Anthem; Distress Ink core paper
TPC Studio sentiment, heat embossed in Distress Ink walnut stain
Darice embossing folder; Paper Smooches ribbon
Paper Studio star punch, Marvy circle punch
garage sale brads; adhesives: Glossy Accents and 3d Zot glue dots

A Solitary Owl

Hi, everyone!

Here today with a card for this month's OWH Our Daily Bread Design challenge. This month, we have been asked to make cards featuring dies and/or punches. Well, I recently broke down and bought that blasted Stampin' Up! owl punch. And, at last weekend's Simon Says Stamps CREATE party, I purchased an A2 curve die.

So, without further ado, here we go.

Glitz sunshine in my soul dp; Cardstock Warehouse Paper Company black
SU owl and bird punches; SSS A2 curve die
TPC Studio heat embossed in Distress Ink walnut stain
sponging in Distress Ink black soot with blending tool
(still loving that SU magnetic pad!)

Love this die. Sandy featured it on a card last week at CREATE and I immediately knew it needed to be added to the menopause room stash! It adds such interest to the card while keeping it really flat. And, it turns out I was able to cut both sheets of dp at the same time. :)

Struggled with the colors for this one. After deciding on the two patterns, I originally went with a brown owl. However, I really felt like I needed a third color... just couldn't land on just the right color. Took a dinner break and came back with the idea to go with black. And, I'm pretty pleased with the look that the black silhouette gives... especially for a Miss You card.

summer fun

Hi, everyone!

This week's OWH Midweek Throwdown challenge is to make a card that is BBQ and/or hamburger related.  Seems like forever since I've gotten to play along with one of these challenges. It's good to be back.  :)

As it turns out, we made an adorable little hamburger in a Stampin' Up! technique class a while ago. But, my card didn't turn out as well as our demonstrator's card. So, this was the perfect opportunity to repurpose that cute little hamburger.  :)

Hamburger: SU paper and punches
Paper: Crate Paper rose cottage ecru; Recollection black; AC green
ODBD background stamp in Distress Ink barn door
Making Memories sentiment stamps, heat embossed in Distress Ink black soot
Ants: Susan Branch stickers
Have had that sheet of Susan Branch stickers forever, the background stamp was part of an OWH ODBD monthly prize, and the sentiment stamps were a garage sale find. All in all, think they came together to make a cute little card.

A quick reminder that the Words 2 Scrap By June challenge is accepting entries. Bobbi and I would love for you to play along!

Have a great weekend! Thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

Thanks, Tim

Hi, everyone!

Wow! As you can tell from pics in my previous post, CREATE 2014 was amazing!!! A large portion of this 2-day crafting extravaganza was class time with Tim Holtz!

The following card was inspired in small part by this week's Shopping Our Stash critter challenge and in large part by Tim's classes -- and CREATE 2014 stash supplies. Thank you, Tim and Simon Says, for helping my crafting dream take flight. :)

Almost EVERYTHING is Tim Holtz (Ranger/Stampers Anonymous/Idea-ology):
antique linen paper, dp, rub ons, stencil, Distress Inks (sponged on with SU daubers), chitchat stickers, kraft tag, Glossy Accents
Also Used:
EK hole punch, stash string, and Martha Stewart butterflies in Recollections black (on inside), foam adhesives

CREATE 2014

Hi, everyone!

WOW!!!! I had the amazing good fortune to attend this weekend's Simon Says Stamps CREATE event! When I read that the event was happening in my hometown -- 5 minutes from my place of work... Well, I just couldn't pass up the opportunity.

Just wish there were words to describe how fabulous these two days were. But, maybe pics can better capture the festivities. My utmost thanks to Heidi, Simons Says staff and volunteers, our amazing teachers, and my fellow crafters.  And thanks to Simon Says, Hero Arts, Ranger, Idea-ology, Stampers Anonymous, Lawn Fawn, Winnie and Walter for all the donated product!  :)

W2SB #6: Oh, the Places You'll Go!

Hi, everyone.

Thanks to everyone who joined us for our Bloom Where You Are Planted challenge. Congratulations to CG for winning last month's challenge!

Hope you enjoyed the I-Team's gallery of cards for this month's Dr. Seuss-inspired word challenge. And, we're especially thrilled to welcome Carol and Darnell as our June Guest I-Teamers. Thanks so much, ladies, for joining us this month!

Now to my card, which was inspired by both the Dr. Seuss book and MasterCard's "Priceless" advertisements.

Pink Paislee dp; Distress Ink core scattered straw; stash gray cardstock
computer-generated font (Andy) on Recollections white
banner hand-cut using SU banner dies and magnetic plate
Fiskars and Paper Studio star punches
Bostitch staples; Tombow foam adhesives

inside sentiment:
The Places You'll Go From Here ....
.......................................... Priceless
This is actually the second version of the card front. Banners were originally placed horizontally, but something didn't feel right. Then I had an AHA moment... the banners needed to run parallel with the lines of the design on the paper. By George, I think that did it!

After changing the front, I then revisited the interior of the card. The photo at the right shows the current interior. Trying to resist the urge to tweak even more. :)

Hope you join us for this month's challenge. Thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!
