Welcoming a Baby and Honoring a Hero

Hi, everyone.

Hope it's been a good weekend. The sun is shining here!

I have two cards to share... one for a colleague at work who is expecting her first child and an Any Hero card.

But, first I'd like to congratulate Linda for winning the March Words 2 Scrap By challenge and thank Bonny from Really Reasonable Ribbon for sponsoring this month's prize. Hope everyone stops by on April 1 to see what Bobbi has in store for next month.

And, I have to share the news about my Stampin' Up! motherlode of a haul. I hosted our stamp club party this past month... and got so many fabulous new toys, including the embossing folder used on the first card, and the magnetic platform and banner die used on the second!  Thanks, Bernadette, for suggesting the stamp club idea.  :)

A good friend gave me some extra baby shower invitations -- with cute little giraffes -- a couple of years ago. For Lyndsay's card, I decided I wanted a family of three of some little creature. Then, I remembered the giraffes. So, I scanned one of the giraffes and tinkered with sizing and orientation to create a family of giraffes. Next, I added Glossy Accents and, after the giraffes were dry, I fussy cut out all three giraffes. Finally, I used Glossy Accents to adhere the giraffes to the front of the card. And, since the parents-to-be do not know the gender of their little one, I chose to make yellow and white the primary colors, using blue as the accent color.

Today's card was inspired by OWH Sketch #217, with inspired being an operative word. I used the basic elements, but changed the positioning of some elements and used fewer layers. Oh my gosh, it was so nice being able to align the banner die and paper pattern using that new magnetic platform!  :)

One quick tip: Since I changed the position of elements, I wasn't quite sure where I wanted to place the set of larger brads. So, I punched out 3 black holes and played around with placement until I found just the right spot for them. Then, I added all five brads and adhered layers.

Parting Thoughts

Hope we don't get the snow being forecast for Tuesday. And, hope to start on some Father's Day cards.

Have a great week! As always, thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

  1. I adore the baby card: the polka dot background and ribbon are the perfect compliments to the giraffe images =) I also like how you changed up the sketch a bit. Great colors and theme for the card, too - I did something very similar.

  2. Cute giraffe baby card, and I love the embossing! Creative minds always stray a little bit from a sketch, so your hero card is perfect :)

  3. Sybrina, Those giraffes are darling and I love how you were able to work with them and get exactly what you wanted. Your Any Hero card is outstanding. You will certainly make some hero smile for the day. Great idea using the punches for proper alignment before you use the brads. It's so nice to be able to learn something new every day. Enjoy your week. Hope none of us get that darn snow.
