Your Coop or Mine?

Hi, everyone!

Happy Friday! Hope the day is going well.

A Tale of Two Photo Shoots

Spent a little time on the beach yesterday morning and early evening. In the morning, there were 4 or 5 families having professional photos of their little ones taken on the boardwalk. All the kids were adorable and well behaved. The photo crew did an outstanding job. These shoots were a huge success.  :)

In the evening, I attempted to get a do-it-yourself photo of me with our little pup. Let's just say our pup was a little more squirmy than the little kids. The one photo in which our little guy semi-cooperated, my head was cut off. While I laughed the entire time -- and there's a lot to be said for laughter, this photo shoot was not nearly as successful as the morning ones. We didn't quite get the blog photo I was hoping for. :(

Today's Card

This week's challenge at Shopping Our Stash is to make a project featuring a chicken or, if need be, another bird. Well, there's not a chicken to be found in my on-the-road stash.

So, what's a girl to do? Go to her handy-dandy Stampin' Up! punch, of course.  :)

paper: MME stella rose, Distress Ink core paper -- featuring tumbled glass and scattered straw,
Stampin' Up! cherry cobbler, Bazzill black, Recollections white
punches: SU owl and small heart; EK corner rounder
original handwritten sentiment
Can't help but smile looking at these little chicks, if I do say so myself. Love the chick's collared dress and fascinator. The chick's dress collar is a layering of the tops of two small hearts. The chick's and rooster's head feathers and the chick's wings were made using owl feet.

I made the chick and rooster first, then the sentiment panel. I struggled with the card's design until inspiration hit to place the little rooster on top of the sentiment.

The one thing I'd change is the handwritten aspect of the sentiment. Unfortunately, there aren't any other options here. Should I decide to send this to Operation Write Home, I'll have to replace the sentiment.

What really pleases me these last few weeks is that I've found a way to enter several challenges -- including this chicken challenge -- by going to my mini-stash and making it work. Tim Gunn (of Project Runway fame) would be so proud!

Parting Thoughts

Cards/Projects can be linked up
until the 21st.
We have a fabulous prize this month at Words 2 Scrap By: an autographed Tim Holtz assemblage clock! This month's words are, "To every thing there is a season." Hope you will have a chance to play along.

Still have some masculine birthday cards to finish for OWH. Images and sentiments have been stamped. Just need to get around to assembling the cards themselves. Maybe tonight?!

As always, thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!

  3. Oh, man, Sybrina, that is too bad about the top of your head being chopped off in the pooch photo, but I think it's a perfect blog photo because of how hard you are laughing! The viewer can't help but laugh with job when they see it!!

And then the laughs continue with your romantic chicken/rooster card! How very cute and how very talented you are with a punch!! I'm impressed by your design and execution and how you made it work for the challenge!! Enjoy yourself!! Hugs, Darnell

  4. I love that you MADE chickens! How creative! Thanks for joining us at Shopping Our Stash!

PS: If you don't have one, you should invest in a Dymo labeler. Then you can make up any sentiment you'd like! It works for me!
