Soar to New Heights

Hi, everyone!

Today's card was made for this week's Operation Write Home Midweek Throwdown challenge to make a kite card.

American Crafts cardstock; Recollections black cardstock
Making Memories kite stamp, heat embossed with Versamark and Ranger clear powder
computer-generated sentiment (Kristen font)
SU white Baker's Twine; Hero Arts white dauber ink
adhesives: Glossy Accents and Recollections foam squares

To create the kite, I stamped and heat embossed the kite image on four different papers. Then, I fussy cut and paper-pieced the kite shown. The clouds were created using a technique shown at Simon Says Stamps CREATE -- daubing Hero Arts white ink with a used dryer sheet.

In addition, I took extra care placing the twine so that it would look good whether the kite was flat or popped up. I adhered one end to the back of the kite. Then I placed the twine across the edge of the card, securing the raspberry-colored tails along the length of the twine.

Since this is going to OWH, there is a piece of white rectangular space on the back for writing a note home to a loved one.

Last, but certainly not least, this card was also inspired by the card shown at the right -- part of a make-n-take at Bernadette's open house for the new Stampin' Up! catalog. The fold in the card felt just right for a kite soaring to new heights. Thanks, Bernadette, for just the inspiration I needed for this OWH kite challenge!

Parting Thoughts

Think that's it for tonight.

A reminder that it's not too late to link a card for this month's Words 2 Scrap By challenge.

I'll be back on Sunday with a card for my tee-rrific dad! Until then, thanks for stopping and happy scrappin'!
